Festive Bunting

Having a hard time figuring out which of last month’s art projects to recycle?  Feeling a bit guilty tossing them out?  Well, we’ve got a great way to turn some of your little one’s masterpieces into festive bunting.

Festive Bunting Main

Supplies you’ll need:

  • Old paintings or drawings
  • Stencils
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Craft knife
  • Decorative tissue paper
  • Glue
  • String

Steps:

  1. To prepare the flags, cut each drawing into 5” strips.  (The pages used for this craft were all 9” x 12” sheets.)  Fold a strip in half and use a stencil to draw on a letter or whatever you’d like to draw.  Then cut out with a craft knife.  Be sure to cut through the front and back flap.  Repeat with each strip.Festive Bunting Stencil
  2. Next cut tissue paper into strips about 5” x 12”.  A tad less than 5” wide is best to make sure the tissue paper doesn’t peek out the sides of the flag.  Open up a flag, and glue tissue paper strip on one half of the flag.  Festive Bunting Tissue PaperAllow to dry.
  3. Cut thing slits in the portion of the tissue paper hanging outside of each flag.
  4. Then cut your string as long as you need it to be plus some for knotting.  Lay one end of the string in the middle of your last flag and glue the top half down.  Festive Bunting StringContinue this process with each flag.  Allow to dry.

When you’re done, you can hang it up for a party or any time of the year.  Now you and your kids can admire their artwork a little bit longer.  Enjoy!
